For many months year 13 students Issie P and Martha H (both 17), put together their production of ‘Footloose’, the stage musical based on the 1980s film.
Martha directed the play and Issie was musical director.
The 38-strong cast consisting of students from years 11-13, was backed up with 11 backstage and technical crew members. The three-night run took place in the first week of November, playing to packed audiences in the school’s newly refurbished Cottrill Hall, with its 200-capacity raked seating.
Issie said that she “loved every minute of it” and paid tribute to the “talented, supportive and enthusiastic cast.”
Harry V and Indea H, who played the two main characters Ren and Ariel, agreed that the project had been “so much fun.” Indea added that she felt “really lucky to have been involved.”
The school’s Headteacher Mrs Wainwright said that: “This wasn’t a school play in the traditional sense. It was done as part of the two girls’ Extended Project qualification, with much less help from staff than would be normal. The result was superb and shows what students can achieve when encouraged to be truly independent.”
