9CedarKosKindness01_smlYear 9 students at Colyton Grammar School have collected donations for the Kos Kindness appeal, a charity founded to help refugees on the Greek island of Kos.

The tutor group collected essential items for the refugees (most of whom are fleeing conflict in the Middle East), such as toiletries, coats, sleeping bags and trainers, from students and staff at the school.  They also ran several fundraising events including a raffle, a lucky dip, and a ‘guess the sweets in the jar’ competition, as well as selling a football shirt.  They raised over £70 in donations, as well as three full carloads of items which they helped to transport to a collection point at Exeter Community Centre.

KosKindnessboxes_smlMrs Simpson, 9 Cedar’s form tutor, said, “Over the summer I was very moved by the plight of people travelling from Syria, and it’s been wonderful to be part of a positive response to that. I’m very grateful to everyone who donated.”
