The Big Colyton Art Show last weekend was the first official Parents’ Association event to be held in the newly refurbished Cottrill Hall and it has been a huge success attracting over 500 visitors and early indications are that approximately £10,000 was raised for the PA to allocate towards new science facilities at the school.
The Show included work by over 50 professional artists working in a range of media, paintings, prints, collage, textiles, sculpture and ceramics; plus a fantastic selection of work from both A Level and GCSE students together with innovative artwork from winners of the Green Team competition. The student work was highly praised and visitors were impressed by the very high standard. Several pieces of student work were sold.
The Show included a very successful shop selling smaller items together with cards and prints and was highly popular as was the cafe which was kept very busy selling drinks and donated homemade cakes and delicious soup at lunchtime.
The Show was officially opened at the Private View on the Friday night by our Patron Charlie O’Sullivan who has also kindly donated one of her beautiful paintings to the school. This painting is for sale.
This event could not have taken place without our wonderful sponsors and advertisers, the school staff and the host of volunteer parents and students, who all contributed to making this yet another successful event for the Parents’ Association. So a big thank you to everyone involved. If the school would like us to we hope to do another Art Show in autumn 2016.
